Superior physical preparation provided me with the tools needed to compete on the International Taekwon-Do stage for 5 years culminating with my selection to represent my country at the 1997 world championships. Combat sports such as Taekwon-Do are dogged by tradition. The traditional thinking was that to get fit for Taekwon-Do you should just do more Taekwon-do! This is what everyone else was doing at the time, but Alwyn Cosgrove taught me to think outside of the box – if you do what everyone else does, at best you can only ever draw even with them. To move to a higher level you need to take a new and different approach. To say Alwyn revolutionized my training is an understatement, he took my fitness levels to new heights and with it came continued success on the tournament circuit. What is really impressive is that Alwyn was already leading the way 5 years ago, and rather than rest on his laurels and stand still he has continued to develop his knowledge in the field of physical preparation and in my qualified opinion he is currently one of the most forward thinking practitioners in his field.
